A Pavilion Style House on the Shores of Lough Derg, County Tipperary, Ireland

Slevyre is Available for Sale by Exclusive Affiliate in Ireland, Sherry Fitzgerald

A lakeside paradise is offered for sale by the Christie's International Real Estate exclusive affiliate in Ireland, Sherry Fitzgerald. Set in approximately 50 acres/20 hectares, within mature parkland and woods, the pavilion style house of Slevyre, commissioned by its current owners, is elegant and easily managed. The house is 284 square meters/3,063 square feet and enjoys a tranquil setting with extensive lake frontage, a walled garden, and woodland walks along the lakeshore.
The architect-designed house has the considerable distinction of being one of only two contemporary residences to appear in Burke’s Guide to Country Houses, while the gardens surrounding the house are featured in George and Bowe’s book, The Gardens of Ireland.
Perfect for both relaxed living and entertaining, Slevyre offers ample space for visiting family and guests. With its high ceilings and tall sash windows, the house is light and airy and many of the rooms feature decorative ceiling plasterwork and cornicing as well as polished timber flooring. Fine reclaimed Georgian doors feature in the dining and drawing rooms with a magnificent Georgian chimneypiece taking center stage in the latter. There are four generous bedrooms, three with en suite bathrooms, and the option to create a fifth bedroom.
Lough Derg, fed by the Shannon, is aptly known as ‘Ireland’s Pleasure Lake’ and is bordered by not only rugged Tipperary countryside but by that of Clare and Galway. It is a haven for waterfowl and famous for its fishing and sailing as well windsurfing and waterskiing. A number of excellent golf courses are within easy distance and there is hunting with the North Tipperary, Ormond or Galway Blazers packs. The Lough Derg Cycleway travels 120 kilometers around the lake.
The attractive village of Terryglass, just a mile or so from the house, is home to two pubs, both of which are as well known by locals as by Dubliners for their warm hospitality, good pints of Guinness, and locally sourced fare.
While Slevyre and Terryglass seem to be a world away from the hustle and bustle of urban living, they are just an hour from Shannon Airport, which offers direct flights to much of mainland Europe as well as to the US. Dublin and Cork Airports are also within easy reach at just over two hours. The local towns of Borrisokane and Portumna are close and the county towns of Nenagh and Birr within easy driving distance.
